Stylish City: vintage denim, summer leather and 70s style

The summer of 2010 was a showcase of retro looks  and saw the return of minimal chic and feminine elegance.

Faded, bleached denim was one of the biggest trends this summer and not only in the practical form of denim shorts but also jackets, shirts and dresses. Looks so fresh when paired with romantic ruffles and simple hairstyle.

A Lady in Red 2010 version

We've seen quite a lot of spectacular fire red dresses on the red carpet in these summer months. Certainly the red color has always been present at glamorous event but how is that it's so classy and fashionable all at once?

Subtle elegance and lovely prints at the Oscars 2010

Oscar 2010 red-carpet parade gives a lead for the spring season event dressing. The newest neutrals: nude shades (soft hues of pink and beige) will show everywhere in formal/cocktail/party occasions.

Versatile silver gray or warm shades of taupe make transition from sporty casual to indisputable elegance. Dazzling looks are still a strong option for party wear; the iconic LBD makes way for the impeccable little white dress while lace brings a retro romantic vibe.

Fairy tales and glamorous decadence at 2010's Golden Globes

Awards shows that take place at the year’s debut are the best preview of the upcoming spring season’s top trends. Golden Globes is my favorite award event (next to the Oscars, of course) and this year it was such a visual treat. Amazing, unique looks compensated for those several disappointing winning results (for me, anyway). So here are my favorite looks:

Glamour in times of recession

You'd think that in this darker times fashion would be as stark as our new (forced) lifestyles but the red-carpet season just began and already stated an optimistic tone. Come to think of it depression times have been also eras of glamour in terms of fashion statements.

Film awards events including Critics Choice, Golden Globes and SAG were a fashion delight; more colorful than ever, the red carpet was a spring celebration.

Roisin Murphy's erratic style

Europe's disco diva Roisin Murphy might not be a huge pop star (in fact I love she is not in the mainstream) but she is an untiringly muse for couturiers and an undoubtedly style icon.

Her fashion sense matches the eclectic music she's known for, a cutting-edge electronic, pop and dance mix, with references going from her idol Grace Jones to David Bowie circa Ziggy Stardust era.

Boho, Brogues and Bold trousers

Want to see what runway trends translated well into street fashion? First is the modern-boho look, well actually one aspect of this look: the fur gilet, which is now everywhere. But there are also other boho details like ethnic or flower prints, folksy knits, fringes, cross-body bags and flare denim jeans.

A trend to keep: the Maxi-Dress

As opposed to last years mini length this summer maxi dress was on everyone's mind, both loved and hated. First maxi dresses appeared in major spring/summer 2008 collections and then they were seen on all "it" girls of the moment. While a one-color dress looks too occasion wear or beachwear (if it's jersey), a printed maxi-dress is the easiest way to an elegant look for daywear. Romantic, flowing, printed long-dresses seems to be this summer's hit and not only.

Bohemian Summer

Inspired by the 60s and the 70s fashions, boho style (bohemian) has returned and looks more chic than ever. Boho-chic style keeps main hippie features: ethnic influences, DIY looks (tie-dye and patchwork), raw fabrics and materials (canvas, straw, wood) mixing them with heirloom pieces like lace dresses, embroidered linen blouses and crochet shawls, vintage men's hats, shoes and belts but also with glam and modern accessories like the latest "it" bag or the ultimate pair of shoes, metallic sparkles or fancy jewelry.

Hot Town, Summer In The City...

It's definitely a hot summer here, where I'm living...I cannot describe it. Or, yes I can: for a stroll around town the most appropriate outfit is a breezy teeny white dress, cute flats, a light straw shoulder bag and a straw hat. Add cool looking sunglasses (60s style is hip now) and a statement necklace. I love this green jade one from Nordstrom.

Effortlessly Chic

Instant chic without any effort: throw a dress on you (a floral frock is perfect for summer), put on some cute flats, add a wide brim hat and a large clutch bag and off you go. I was inspired by the lady-like styles of the late-fifties early-sixties time but with more sex-appeal, you know BB (Brigitte Bardot) looks.
Enjoy! :)

Eco-preppy-chic

What to wear when you have a busy outdoor day? Shorts and a floaty blouse, of course. I love mixing feminine details with boy-meets-girl factor like this lace-smock top and white frame sunglasses with plaid shorts, trilby hat and converse-like shoes. Style tip: leave the heavy leather bag at home and choose one made of canvas.
